Consequences of the magnetic field, sonic and radiofrequency waves and intense pulsed light on the labeling of blood constituents with technetium-99m BABT
Meyer,Patricia Froes; Santos-Filho,Sebastião David; Ronzio,Oscar Ariel; Bonelli,Ludmila; Fonseca,Adenilson de Souza da; Costa,Iris do Ceu Clara; Brandão Neto,José; Medeiros,Aldo da Cunha; Bernardo-Filho,Mario.
Sources of magnetic field, radiofrequency and audible sonic waves and pulsed light have been used in physiotherapy to treat different disorders. In nuclear medicine, blood constituents(Bl-Co) are labeled with technetium-99m (99mTc) are used. This study evaluated the consequences of magnetic field, radiofrequency and audible sonic waves and intense pulsed light sources on the labeling of Bl-Co with 99mTc. Blood from Wistar rats was exposed to the cited sources. The labeling of Bl-Co with 99mTc was performed. Blood not exposed to the physical agents was used(controls). Data showed that the exposure to the different studied sources did not alter significantly (p>0.05) the labeling of Bl-Co. Although the results were obtained with animals, the data suggest...

Effects of magnetized water on the vegetative growth and yield of tomato CIGR Journal
Yusuf, Kamorudeen Olaniyi.
This study was conducted to determine the effect of magnetized water on the vegetative growth and yield of tomato.  The values of magnetic flux densities used for treating the irrigation water varied from 124 to 719 G (T2 to T10) were produced from electromagnet and T1 was the control experiment which was not treated with magnetic field.  The water after passing through (treated with) magnetic field (T2 to T10) was called magnetized water while the control experiment (T1) was called non-magnetized water.  The experimental layout for the study was a 10 by 10 Latin Square Design.  The tomato (variety UC82B) was planted in 100 buckets in a transparent garden shed for 130 d and irrigated with magnetized and non-magnetized water, respectively.  The heights of...

Glutathione production using magnetic fields generated by magnets BABT
Santos,Lucielen Oliveira dos; Gonzales,Tatiane Araujo; Úbeda,Beatriz Torsani; Alegre,Ranulfo Monte.
The objective of this work was to study the production of GSH by Saccharomyces cerevisiae ATCC 7754 in a fermentor (5 L) using a cell recycle system with magnets. The fermentation conditions were 20°C, 500 rpm, 5% (v/v) of inoculum, pHinitial 5, 1.1 vvm aeration and total fermentation time of 72 h. The time of application of MF ranged from 24, 48 or 72 h. In comparison to the control experiment, the best results were obtained with 72 h of application of MF. The cell concentration reached 19.5 g/L and GSH concentration was 271.9 mg/L that corresponded to an increase of 2.63 and 32.1% compared to the control experiment, respectively.

Impact of magnetic fields generated by AC/DC submarine power cables on the behavior of juvenile European lobster (Homarus gammarus) ArchiMer
Taormina, Bastien; Di Poi, Carole; Agnalt, Ann-lisbeth; Carlier, Antoine; Desroy, Nicolas; Escobar-lux, Rosa Helena; D’eu, Jean-françois; Freytet, Florian; Durif, Caroline M.f..
The number of submarine power cables using either direct or alternating current is expected to increase drastically in coming decades. Data concerning the impact of magnetic fields generated by these cables on marine invertebrates are scarce. In this context, the aim of this study was to explore the potential impact of anthropogenic static and time-varying magnetic fields on the behavior of recently settled juvenile European lobsters (Homarus gammarus) using two different behavioral assays. Day-light conditions were used to stimulate the sheltering behavior and facilitate the video tracking. We showed that juvenile lobsters did not exhibit any change of behavior when submitted to an artificial magnetic field gradient (maximum intensity of 200 µT) compared...

The effects of chronic AC magnetic field on contraction and relaxation of isolated thoracic aorta rings of healthy and diabetic rats BABT
Öcal,Isil; Günay,Ismail.
The aim of in this study was to determine the effect of chronic alternating current (AC) magnetic field on the contraction and relaxation parameters of isolated thoracic aorta rings in healthy and diabetic rats. Sixty rats (Wistar albino spp) weighing between 250-300 g were used. The rats were divided into four groups: 1-Control (C), 2- control + magnetic field (C+MA), 3- experimental diabetic (DIA), 4- experimental diabetic and magnetic field (DIA+MA). Magnetic fields of 5 mT intensity and 50 Hz frequency oriented in the north-south direction was applied to the C+MA and DIA+MA groups for 2 hours each day for one month, after which rats were killed by decapitation and the thoracic aorta dissected. This showed attenuated contraction responses to...
